The
Health Services provided through the Special Projects
Department include school nursing programs and programs
sponsored by the Cleburne ISD Health Advisory Council.
The Cleburne
Independent School District Health Advisory Council plays a
major role in assisting the school district to develop
effective school health programs in accordance with
community needs.
Who is on the Health Advisory Council?
Members may include practicing physicians, dentists, local
health representatives, a representative from Walls Regional
Hospital, parents, school nurses, school administrators,
physical education teachers, and a representative of the
clergy.
What is the purpose of the Health Advisory Council?
The council reviews available health status indicators in
the school community population, identifies available
community health resources, promote cooperation between
school personnel and community health resources, provides a
forum for discussion of health-related issues, reviews and
endorses objective health policies and practices, and
reviews and endorses a comprehensive health education
program that meets the long-term needs for the growth and
development of children.
Why is a Health Advisory Council needed?
The members of the council will become knowledgeable about
school health activities, issues and concerns and they
become advocates for the children. The schools will benefit
from the health expertise of the council members. School
board members and administrators will have support when
dealing with controversial health issues. School health
nurses will have a source of reference for issues and
concerns that may arise.
